Making the perfect blueberry pie is not just about following a recipe. Here are some useful tips that will help you make your pie even better:

  • To get a crisp pie shell, always pre-bake the pie shell before adding the filling. You can also freeze the pie shell before baking to prevent the edges from sliding down as much.
  • Prick the bottom of the pie shell with a fork before pre-baking it. This will help prevent the bottom from inflating.
  • Immediately after pre-baking, brush the pie shell with the beaten egg. This provides a protective layer that prevents the filling from making the pie shell soft and soggy.
  • If the dough is too soft and sticks when you roll it out, let it rest longer in the fridge. You can also roll the dough between two sheets of baking paper to facilitate the transfer to the pie dish.
  • If the pie gets too much color during baking, cover it with foil to prevent it from burning.
  • If using frozen blueberries, use potato flour or cornstarch to thin the filling and prevent the pie from becoming too watery.
  • If the pie feels loose when you take it out of the oven, it will become firmer as it cools. Give it some time to settle before serving.

Serving suggestions

Blueberry pie is great on its own, but you can also serve it with different accompaniments to make it even more irresistible. Here are some suggestions for what to serve with your blueberry pie:
